When you think of Jonathan Charles Fine Furniture, you may not think of contemporary styled chests with clean lines or colorful, ornate side tables. Instead you probably envision traditional antique dining sets and hand-carved bed frames. But Jonathan Charles is stepping out of its comfort zone with some of its newest collections.
Founder and Designer Jonathan Sowter draws inspiration from original antiques from his travels. This inspiration can be seen in these new collections but with a twist that is new to Jonathan Charles. It is clear that Jonathan Charles is evolving in style, while still preserving its identity with intricate details and Old World craftsmanship techniques. With one look, these pieces speak for their own, but here is a little more detail about these stunning collections.
Mix Masters – The Camden Collection
The new Camden Collection mixes mid-20th century European and postmodern American designs with a signature Jonathan Charles’ design twist. Pulling inspiration from Paul McCobb, Adrian Pearsall, Paul Laszlo, and Arne Vodder, these designs are dominated by wood, brass, and glass fashioned into crisp, angular forms. Each piece is handcrafted by artisans, including the hardware, to allow for the creation of original designs that are on an elevated artistic level. Morocco Bound – The Moroccan Collection
Taking inspiration from Moorish architecture, the Moroccan Collection is comprised of accent tables and mirrors with simplified arches and decorative moldings. Items come in original lacquer colors including Pumpkin Cream, Split Pea, Aruba Blue, Ballet Slipper, Wildwood Green, Yellow Raincoat, Patriot Blue, and Snow White. Other items are offered in signature finishes, ranging from silver to gold leaf to rustic walnut. Employing traditional techniques like veneer and faux bone inlay and meticulous handturning, the artisans capture the essence of Moroccan culture in each piece.
